Elena Hernández

Trainee at CIES-IUL (Erasmus+)

Elena (1995) spent her Erasmus Semester at ISCTE in Lisbon and decided to extend her stay within the Project exPERts to write her Bachelor thesis. She is majoring in social and cultural anthropology at the Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg. At exPERts Elena investigates the social practises of women squatting and occupying houses. This she does from a feminist perspective and as a response to the precarious housing situation in Lisbon.
In a previous project she dealt with historic power discourses in the city politics of the 80s in Freiburg, and how the city politics practised Antigypsyism-politics. In May 2017 she was one of the chief executives and organised the student congress of the association “German cultural anthropologists” (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Volkskunde) with the main topic doing gender. doing culture. doing nation – doing what?!, to put in main focus the concrete acting of actors and the constructive character of culture.
