Rita Ávila Cachado (1975) is a post-PhD researcher at CIES-IUL with a grant from FCT (Science and Technology Foundation, Portugal). After her graduation in Anthropology (1999) with work about Portuguese women in the 1960s, she began her ethnographic work among Portuguese Hindu-Gujaratis in Great Lisbon and did short incursions in Great London, Leicester, Diu (India), Maputo. She has a PhD in Urban Anthropology (2008) in ISCTE-URV (Lisbon-Tarragon), with a Thesis about the resettlement process of a Hindu population from a deprived neighborhood (PER social housing program). Her research interests are focused on urban anthropology, biographic methods, Housing, ethnic entrepreneurship, Hindu Diaspora.
